Walking through the Robot Wheatfield

An interactive installation done for the “Internet of Things” studio taught by Matt Cottam, where animated lights streaming from the ceiling track the movement of a body as it walks through a field of steel wheat.
This project was inspired by the wheat fields surrounding my home town of Moscow, Idaho. During the late summer harvest, combines kick up dust particles that hang in the air and filter sunlight as it comes through clouds, creating the streaming effect we used to call “jesus-light.” Not to get too Thomas Kinkade-y, of course.
