Upon close inspection, one realizes that the patterns and flourishes on this wallpaper are made up of the markered wall tags normally found on park benches and subway windows.
Architects and designers frequently talk about wanting to “bring the outside in,” or similar. However, the definition of outside is often quite limited; it usually refers to nature and is used in such a way as to not challenge psychological privacy. What happens, then, when a slightly uncomfortable aspect of outdoor urban decoration - taken directly from public spaces - is brought indoors? Moreover, what happens to the effect of the tag itself as it is transformed from a singular element in a high-traffic area to a subtle repeated pattern in a private space?
