Everyone in Providence should, on May 8th (i.e. this Thursday) come to the Hillel Gallery on Brown Street for the opening of the spring juried show, called “reGENERATE.” The Bloog will be there, along with some other great work by local artists.

The opening reception is 7-9pm, featuring music from Doggie Hi! Yippie and One Time String Band. The address is:

Brain toys

Right now I’m working with the Department of Cognitive and Linguistic Sciences at Brown University to develop electronic toys, designed for testing cognitive development in babies. The toys were designed by Rachel Gottlieb and Mary Davidson; I’m doing the electronics. Check out videos of a couple halfway-done-ones below.

WiSense

This is a new way to for cities to organize meter parking, using WiFi and RFID-tagged drivers licenses.

Prototype created using a Phidget RFID reader, two Arduinos, a LCD117 Serial LCD Board, NADA, and Flash/Actionscript 2.0.

Bloog: The RSS Mod-Synth

Here is the finished project of what I wrote about here - a machine that scrambles the words and sentences of real-time blog posts, based on the look of a 1960’s Moog synthesizer. It pulls in any RSS feed (for demonstration I used Technorati to create one that fetches all new net-wide blog posts about ‘music,’ har har). The knobs and sliders scroll through the text and add or subtract words from the screen, creating new ideas from the existing sentences.
